  6. Nov 15,  · Townes Van Zandt was a tragic genius who suffered from Bi-Polar illness and whose brain was damaged by Electro-Convulsive Therapy, or electric shock treatments. That he was able to write and play such haunting music with perfect similes and metaphors is miraculous. This CD is beautifully done and well worth owning/5(25).
